No Illusion
Happiness is what remains when our illusions fade away.

According to the teachings of the Buddha, the root cause of all suffering is ignorance. It is in our conrole to see clearly. If we did, and lived accordingly, we would be happy.
Let that sink in for a moment...
It means that happiness is our natural state and suffering is a fog. The way out is not to add anything to our lives, but to let go of what clouds our sight. So what remains when the fog lifts?
A Precious Human Life
The truth is that we have been granted a precious human life. Consider the odds for a moment: out of billions of years of dead matter drifting through space, here you are - a being that can taste a strawberry, feel sunlight on its skin, and wonder about its own existence. You won a lottery you never even bought a ticket for.
We are capable of almost anything when we focus on one thing. But beyond any achievement, we can be happy simply by experiencing the quiet bliss of being human.
How? Don't take the moments of your life for granted. Don't lose yourself in the collective illusion of society.
In the grand scheme of the universe, your bank account and your status mean nothing.
What counts is kindness, compassion, love - and how generously we share them.
And what does that mean for our everyday life?
Don't Wait for Happiness
You never know what the future will bring. So don't wait for things to become a certain way before you allow yourself to feel happy. Happiness postponed is happiness declined - "I'll be happy when..." is a horizon that moves with every step you take toward it.
The alternative? Stop negotiating with reality. Enjoy the poeple and things around you, they won't be with you forever. Accept things and people as they are - change will come by living it, not by demanding it. And what looks like uncertainty from one angle is pure adventure from another: nurture your curiosity and enjoy the process of exploration. Learning is the fun part, not knowing.
So trust what is already unfolding. Doubt earns its place only when reality asks you to adjust - until then, it is just noise between you and the moment.
The Youngest You Will Ever Be
Here is a thought that may humble you: this is the youngest you will ever be.
We spend so much time mourning our younger selves - the smoother skin, the boundless energy, the knees that never complained. But while we look back with longing, our future self is looking at this very moment with exactly the same envy. Ten years from now, you would give anything to have the body, the time and the possibilities you are holding in your hands right now.
So you are not too old to start. You are, in fact, at the perfect age - because it is the only age available. The dance class, the language, the trip, the apology, the dream you keep postponing for a "better time": the better time is a mirage. There is only ever now, and now is as young as it gets.
Don't wait until you miss this day. Live it while it is still here.
Water the Garden of Gratitude
Here is one of the mind's sneakiest illusions: whatever we have, we stop seeing. The first sip of coffee is a miracle; the hundredth is background noise. Psychologists call it habituation - I call it falling asleep with open eyes.
Gratitude is the act of waking up. Each evening, find three moments of the day and hold them up to the light like small gemstones: the friend who laughed at your joke, the warm shower, the fact that your legs carried you everywhere you wanted to go. What you appreciate, appreciates. A grateful mind cannot be poor - it keeps discovering treasures in the same old rooms.
You Are Not the Voice in Your Head
You are not your inner monologue. You are not your thoughts. The voice in your head is merely a neurotic commentator.
Imagine watching a movie with it sitting right next to you, acting the way it acts in your mind: "What did I have for breakfast? Ah, muesli, right. Look at her body - why am I not that pretty? What should I eat tomorrow? I need pizza. Now. No, you had pizza last week already..." And on and on and on it goes.
That's not good company. But here is the liberating part: the fact that you can hear the voice proves that you are not it. You are the one listening. And the listener has a choice - you can let the commentary drone on like a radio in another room, without turning up the volume, without arguing back. Don't listen to it. Embrace the silence instead. In that silence, you meet yourself for the first time.
Dwell in Your Perception
In every single moment, you are experiencing an astonishing wealth of colors, scents, sounds, tastes, feelings and impressions. Right now, as you read this, there is the weight of your body on the chair, the temperature of the air on your skin, a dozen distant sounds you filtered out - an entire symphony playing beneath your attention.
If you simply dwell in them - instead of commenting on or describing them - you come close to the true richness of your human life. Just experience it. You perceive far more than you can ever grasp. So don't try to grasp it. A wave cannot be kept in a bucket without ceasing to be a wave.
Give It Away to Multiply It
And here lies perhaps the most beautiful secret of all: happiness behaves the opposite of money. Hoard it, and it shrinks. Give it away, and it multiplies.
A candle loses nothing by lighting another candle. Every genuine compliment, every patient ear, every small act of unrequested kindness returns to you doubled - not as reward, but as resonance. If you want to feel loved, love. If you want to feel rich, give. The heart is a muscle that grows through use.
Endless Sources of Happiness
As the variety of your perception is endless, so are the sources of happiness you can experience. Every illusion you let go of opens a dozen new hallways of wonder and joy.
Your happiness is only one conscious decision away. It surfaces in every moment you release an illusion. It is waiting behind the fog of ignorance. And it nourishes your heart with the essence of the universal scheme: kindness, compassion and love.
Be happy for no reason - it is your birthright.
Enjoy the journey of exploring new facets of happiness :)
